Walks

Aberford is a good base for walkers and ramblers as there are a lot of interesting walks in the area. Below are a few ideas:

A one mile walk would take you to The Aberford Triumphal Arch in the Parlington Estate – the Arch was built to celebrate the victory of the Americas over the British in 1783. The Crooked Billet pub on the way to Towton is a 2 mile walk away. Close by, is Lead Church which was built in the 12th Century and is “a splendid example of Norman Architecture”. The sight of the Battle of Towton (1461), the bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil is 3-4 miles away. There are also a number of longer walks taking in beautiful countryside and villages.

Local Attractions

Pump Hill Barn is well placed for visiting places of interest in York, Leeds and surrounding areas. Here are just a few ideas:-

Lotherton Hall

2 miles away. As well as the Regency house, there are formal gardens, a bird garden, walks around the estate and a children's playground.

Temple Newsam

7 miles away. It is set within over 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland. It has Europe's largest working Rare Breeds Farm.

Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve

7.5 miles away. There are activities for families and children throughout the year.

Leeds

8 miles away has a number of places to visit including The Royal Armouries, the Leeds City Museum and Tropical World. Leeds has one of the country's largest pedestrianised shopping areas.

Harewood House

8 miles away has over 100 acres of gardens as well as an adventure playground and a bird garden.

York

12 miles away has many tourist attractions. Places of interest include The National Railway Museum, York Minster and the Yorvik Viking Centre.

Newby Hall & gardens

23 miles has 25 acres of gardens, a sculpture park, a miniature railway and a children's adventure playground.
